My Issues

Streamlining City Government

I consistently advocate for fiscally responsible budgets, making sure that we can invest in our buildings & infrastructure, provide fair compensation for City employees, and maintain sufficient reserves for the future.

I'm committed to the balanced distribution of resources for public safety, recreation, and other services throughout Greenbelt.  I will continue to look at ways to improve services, cut costs, and invest in our city staff and infrastructure.

Increasing efficiency and growing the tax base are the best solutions for maintaining our quality of life.  I will step up the fight to hold the line on tax increases while balancing the City’s long-term needs and managing debt.

Community Development

To remain true to community values around open space preservation and sustainability, we need to expand our tax base so that we can afford to proactively pursue these goals.  We must do more than rely on the County or State to steer our progress.

To move toward a future we want, we need clear plans.  While College Park, Hyattsville and Riverdale Park have evolved, change has been slow to come to Greenbelt.

As a result of my work on Council, the City hired an Economic Development staff, established quarterly "Business Coffees", and engaged in other activities to improve communications and build bridges with the local business community.  These activities have made a real difference to small and large businesses struggling to make it through the COVID pandemic.

I will continue to push for focused planning and better follow through to achieve our shared community and economic development goals.

Public Safety

Resources committed to police, firefighters, and first responders reflect their importance in our community.  To recruit and retain the "best and brightest" to work for the Greenbelt, we must be maintain regionally competitive wages & standards for these employees.

This is crucial: we need well-trained individuals in our police department in order to hold them to the highest standards of accountability. I fully support the specific reform recommendations proposed by the City's Public Safety Advisory Committee.

Role of City Council

My role as a councilmember is to be prepared for meetings, to consider alternative approaches to problems, and then to work with the rest of Council to decide the best course of action.  I pledge to focus my time on issues that are within the authority and control of the City of Greenbelt.

I take a balanced and even-handed approach to the issues. I listen to the views of residents, stakeholders, other Council members, and do research.  In the end, it is my job is to make difficult decisions that are in the best interest of our community.

"As a consistent and progressive voice on Council, I remain committee to the town's legacy while working to ensure a vibrant, sustainable future for Greenbelt."
